Pearland won their seventh straight game this season and have a 6-0 district record which ties them with Shadow Creek as both teams sit atop the District 22-6A standings.
The 22-6A title will be decided this coming Friday, October 25 when the Oilers and the Sharks square off at Freedom Field to determine who will wear the league crown this season. Pearland is currently ranked No. 16 in the Houston area while Shadow Creek sits at No. 17. Both teams have an overall mark of 7-1.
Meanwhile, the Oilers kept their district record perfect with a dominating 52-3 win over the Pasadena Memorial Mavericks to keep them winless in league action at 0-5.
The Oilers took the opening kickoff at their own 30 and scored six-plays later when QB Jake Westmoreland hit Jordan “The Jet” Hernandez on an 11-yard scoring pass for a quick 7-0 lead following the PAT by Zane Adler.
The Pearland defense forced the Mavs to punt on their first possession tp set up the offense at the Oiler 40.
It took just one play as Westmoreland dropped back, fired a laser to Hernandez and The Jet did the rest as he caught the ball between two defenders and then turned on the “Jets” to race to the end zone to complete a 60-yard touchdown to increase the lead to 14-0 with 6:10 left in the first period.
Memorial punted after three plays to set up the Oilers at the Mavs 40 after a minus-2 yard punt.
The Oilers drive stalled at the Memorial 12-yard line and on fourth and goal, Adler drilled a 29-yard field goal with :14 second left in the opening quarter making the score 17-0.
Early in the second quarter, Westmoreland would use his legs on a 22-yard run to the pay station to bump the score to 24-0 with 8:11 left in the period.
Memorial would finally generate enough offense to get deep in Pearland territory only to settle for a 32-yard field goal to make the score 24-3 with 2:49 left in the first half.
But the Oilers weren’t through as Westmoreland found Hernandez once again on a 10-yard touchdown pass to make the score 31-3 at intermission.
The Oilers would add three more scores in the second half to make the final score 52-3.
RB Tate Chisolm scored on a 5-yard run with 10:35 in the third period to make the score 38-3. Sophomore RB Ryan Miller got loose on a 32-yard scoring scamper with 10:25 remaining in the fourth quarter to increase the margin to 45-3 and then backup QB Steven Craft excited the home crowd with a thrilling 42-yard touchdown run through the Memorial defense to seal the district win 52-3.
Pearland dominated on offense with 457 total yards (219 rushing, 236 passing) compared to Memorial who finished with 256 yards.
Westmoreland was 7-of-9 passing for 183 yards and three TDs.
    Leading rushers include Miller (11-87 yards, 1TD), Craft (2-51 yards, 1TD), Chisolm (10-40, 1TD), and Cam’Ron Bush (4-15 yards).
Leading receivers include Hernandez (6-148 yards, 3TDs), Nick Fernandez (1-35 yards), Mark Amaro (1-22 yards), Kaleb Samuels (1-15), and Michael Shawyer (1-13 yards).
Pearland will travel to Freedom Field in Manvel to face the Shadow Creek Sharks on Friday, October 25 at 7:00 p.m. for the district championship.
