Pearland thrashes Alvin 59-0
For the second week in a row, Pearland blew past a district opponent 59-0. This time — it was the Alvin Yellowjackets who came to Pearland ISD Stadium only to return home with the crushing loss.
Pearland improves to 3-1 on the season and 2-0 in District 22-6A action.
The Oilers opened up the scoring 12-play, 65-yard scoring drive that took 6:06 off the first quarter clock as Cam’ Bush scored on a 4-yard run with 5:44 left in the opening stanza for a 7-0 lead following the PAT by Zane Adler.
Alvin was forced to punt on their first possession after three plays setting up the Oilers on their own 41.
On the first play, junior QB Jake Westmoreland hit a quick pass to junior WR Jordan “The Jet” Hernandez who turned on the jets and raced down the sideline for a 59-yard scoring jaunt and another score with 3:06 remaining in the first period and a 14-0 lead.
The Oilers continued their offensive fireworks in the second quarter with three more scores.
With 11:12 remaining in the period, sophomore fullback Dominic Teichelman scored on a 1-yard plunge to increase the lead to 21-0.
Westmoreland added a score with a 10-yard run at the 8:21 mark of the quarter and Jaylan Stewart scored on a 49-yard scamper with 2:56 left before halftime to bump the score to 35-0.
Adler put a cherry on top of the first half with a 44-yard field goal with :02 seconds to make the score 38-0 at intermission.
Pearland added three more scores in the second half as Westmoreland scored his second touchdown of the game on a 9-yard keeper, defensive lineman Keegan Pugh scooped up a fumble and rambled 9-yards for another score, and RB Ryan Miller scored the final touchdown in the fourth period on a 1-yard run to post the 59-0 final score.
Westmoreland was 8-of-11 passing for 143 yards and one TD while picking up 52 yards on 5 carries for a pair of TDs.
Hernandez led all receivers with five catches for 89 yards and one score.
Miller had 59 yards on eight carries and one TD. Stewart had two totes for 58 yards and a score.
Pearland will travel to Freedom Field on Friday, September 27 to face the Manvel Mavericks (1-3, 1-1) at 7:00 p.m.
