ers, cheerleaders, students, and anyone else who stormed the field
stood arm-in-arm to relish the moment.
“This is really a great night for all of us,”
said sophomore quarterback Jason Tray-
lor. “It was a total team effort and I’m just
glad to be a part of it.”
Evans, who tearfully expressed his
happiness in the victory, said, “I thank
Jesus Christ for allowing me to be a
part of such a great night. It is one of the
happiest moments of my life.”
Needless to say - it was a long time
since the Oilers got to enjoy such a mo-
ment. As the 1997 season progressed
-- so did the Oilers!
Coach Heath and his coaching staff
were to be commended for their hard
work in installing the drive and deter-
mination into each of those young men
that finally paid off!
Though it was only one win -- it
was one that the coaches and players
would never forget! And it marked the
beginning of a remarkable turnaround
for Pearland Oilers football.
The 2016 football season marks the 20th year since Tony Heath
took over the helm of the Pearland Oilers. He begins the season with
a 187-49 overall record as the winningest coach in PHS history.
The Oilers have made the playoffs for the past 16 consecutive years
and the upcoming season should see Pearland make another deep
run in the post-season.
