Pearland Football 2021
Head Coach Ricky Tullos
As the Pearland Oilers approach the 2021 sea-
son, they do so with great optimism as they
seek to advance to the post-season for the 22nd
straight year.
Head coach Ricky Tullos begins his fourth
season at the helm of the Oilers football pro-
gram and he has a sparkling 26-7 overall record
and his teams have advanced to the playoffs the
past three years under his guidance.
In 2018, the Oilers went 10-0 during the reg-
ular season and captured the District 23-6A
crown. Pearland fell to Dickinson in the first
round of the playoffs to finish with a 10-1 mark
at the end of Tullos' first season.
In 2019, Tullos picked up career win No. 100
when the Oilers beat the Spring Branch Memorial Mustangs 49-23. Pearland closed
out that season with an 8-3 mark while advancing to the bi-district round of the
playoffs.
In 2020, the Oilers handed Tullos with his
first playoff win since coming to Pearland
- a 44-37 win over District 24-6A champi-
on Clear Springs Chargers. For the second
straight year, Pearland finished 8-3 while
advancing to the Class 6A Region III Div. I
area round.
With the return of 13 starters from an 8-3
squad with seven of those veterans return-
ing on defense, expect stinginess to be the
order of the day each time Pearland takes
the field in 2021.
There is a renewed confidence that the Oil-
ers can challenge for the league crown this
season and Tullos and his coaching staff are
excited for the possibilities from his players.
The coaching journey began for coach
Tullos when he became the head coach at
Cleveland High School (TX). He established
his winning ways by posting a 24-10 mark
over a three-year stretch.
In 2011, Richmond George Ranch was
searching for a new head coach. The school
opened in 2010 and the death of the head
coach placed them in a position to find a new
leader. Tullos arrived to breathe a winning tradition in the young school.
From 2011 to 2017, Tullos led the Longhorns on an historic and memorable jour-
ney that included a trip to the 2015 Class 5A Division I throne room for a 16-0 mark
and a state championship.
