There is excitement in the air concerning the Oilers new district. Joining Pearland in District 22-6A
is Alvin, Alvin Shadow Creek, Manvel, Pasadena Dobie, Pasadena Memorial, Pasadena Sam Rayburn,
    The Pearland Oilers are entering their third year with   Pasadena South Houston, and Pearland Dawson. “We won’t have to log as many miles on away games;
coach B.J. Gotte at the helm of their football fortunes. however, the competition will be just as challenging,” Gotte said.
 So far so good!
Coach Gotte is vested in the process, development, and growth that will bring excitement to the
2022, Gotte’s first year, saw the Oilers advance program, campus, and community. He leads by example and is a great leader and role model for Pearland
to the playoffs and finish 6-5. There was no doubt the ISD. The impact of his strong leadership has already been felt by the coaching staff and players and it is
Oilers were playing with a new energy and excitement. having a positive influence in the right direction.
In 2023 the Oilers showed great progress as the players
improved in speed and strength on both sides of the
ball. The Oilers closed out the season with a playoff
win over Dickinson and a 9-3 season while advancing
to the post-season for the 24th straight year.

Pearland is in a new district for the next two years
after realignment by the University Interscholastic
League (UIL). The Oilers are a pre-season pick to
finish second behind Shadow Creek, just in front of the
Dawson Eagles and the Manvel Mavericks, to make
the playoffs for the 25th straight season.

“We are making positive strides in the program every year,” Gotte said. “Last year our records were
Varsity 9-3, JV 8-2, Soph 10-0, Fresh Black 6-3-1, and Fresh Maroon 8-2. We will continue to transition
to player led leadership with maximum development of every kid in our program so they can be the best
person and player possible. We are excited about the future and look forward to continue to restore pride
 and tradition here in Pearland.”

Pearland, Dawson and Shadow Creek finished in a three-way tie for the District 23-6A title last
season, and it looks like it will be another close battle this season.

The most obvious improvement has been
the players. They have developed a strong team
bond and there is pride in being an Oiler again
which was noticeably lost the four previous years
following the retirement of former head coach Tony
Heath who resurrected a perennial loser prior to his
arrival in 1997 thru 2016. While the Oilers made
the post-season during the four years after Heath’s
retirement, they were 1-4 in the playoffs which was
uncharacteristic of a Pearland football team who
had captured the 2010 Class 5A Div I state title
and advanced to the 2013 Class 6A Div I state title
game only to fall to state champion Allen and future Gotte received a Bachelor’s degree from Texas Lutheran where he was an outstanding football player
 NFL QB Kyler Murray.
in college. He is married to wife, Lisa, who is a Regional Residential Property Manager, and they have two
children, Keegan and Gavin. Gotte enjoys spending time with family and friends.
Pearland is certainly on track for another
winning season as the Oilers improved from 6-5 in
 2022 to 9-3 in 2023 with a 16-14 (5OT) first round
playoff win over District 24-6A champion Dickinson.
